That is not unique to the JW's. I know people who like to give God credit for everything that happens, even getting diagnosed with a disease. Praise God! Now we know how to treat your symptoms!

re JW.org apparel: If an R&F laborer wears that ski cap to work, and customers see it... that does count as field service time?
I see the artist formerly known as Prince in the back row, one seat to the left of the guy under the 3. My eyes keep going back to the guy picking his nose.

Do JWs use the Baptizmal formula?
by Hortenzie indo the elders say: "in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit" when they are immersing the one being baptized?.

They cite the following scripture in paragraph 15 of the Watchtower study article (Dec 2013) this week:
Matthew 28:19, 20
19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”
(Baptized ones are protected by Jesus, according to the paragraph... so I guess you're gonna want to do that!)
... Leading up to encouragement to be zealous, and spend part of your family worship time working on field ministry, and some of your family worship time for preparing for the meetings. (I guess it's just assumed that another portion of the time would be for reading the bible... if there's time left over).

Planting seeds of thought with my JW doctor
by Faithful Witness ini have hesitated to post anything about my recent encounters with our jw doctor, because i don't really want anyone to insult her or me, for continuing to rely on her for medical care.
our family doctor is a jehovah's witness.
we were referred to her by our former bs conductor.

You know, I'm really thinking about this now. (love that picture, Outlaw! haha)
Our BS conductor told us about her, and said "Our doctor is a JW." I guess we took his word for it. Is it possible she isn't actually a JW, but likes the connections she gets from them? I don't know where she lives, but her office is not near the territory where we live. Maybe she just pretends to be a JW, and allows them to leave the magazines there for her many JW patients.
I never asked her. I didn't really care one way or another, but we did mention to her that we were studying, and with whom. I don't know now.
I have seen WT literature at many different doctor's offices, and emergency rooms, etc. My sister works at an urgent care center, and she is throwing them away every week.
Maybe she is a JW fraud. So far, she has given us reasonable medical advice, and is good about referrals and helping us with special claims needs.

mynameislame: "BS conductor" couldn't be a more appropriate name for our elder "friend!"
We were a couple who asked a lot of questions that did not appear in the WT "Teach" book. After awhile, we noticed that any off topic question would cause our BS conductor to go off on a long tangent. We started calling it the "Joe Smith Show." It got very annoying, and we found our time with him becoming less and less useful.

I knew I would get criticized for trusting a JW. This is an interesting discussion!
I honestly have no interest in converting her, nor do I care what her spiritual "condition" is. She cares about us, and has always been a competent doctor. She is the only doctor in a very small family practice, is very kind, and has always seemed to have good ethics. We have access to specialists and large medical facilities when we need treatment and tests.
That said, I have a compassion for all JW people. I think that the majority of them honestly are trying to do what they think is right. I find it fascinating that she can juggle her religion with her profession. It was also interesting that she brought up politics. Her practice has been affected by the new health care laws, and being forced to put patient records into the health care database.
The experiences I have had in life, have given me a unique perspective on the world (as we each do). I don't have any kind of vendetta against JW's, but don't see any problem with giving anyone food for thought. I think it would be negligent to ignore a chance to at least toss a seed on the ground.
In the KH we attended here, the WT study conductor was an engineer. He was clearly better than everyone else in the congregation full of farmers, laborers and contractors. It was interesting to hear them be so condescending toward higher education, when the speaker on stage had a master's degree.

punkofnice: 'It isn't food they need, they need the watchtower.'
Exactly! That is exactly what they need!
I asked my sister what she thought of the article about the sheeps and goats in the July Watchtower, 2013. Her response (after 5 second blank stare... oh, I made her think... or not...), "It made sense."
I asked why they ignore the passage where Jesus describes the behavior of the sheep and goats... "you know, feeding the poor, helping the homeles..."
Her response: "Oh, that's just an example. There is nothing wrong with a food drive, per se. BUT...What we do is much more important. We are offering them eternal life."
I just said, "You can't eat a magazine. How are they supposed to hear your message, if their stomach is rumbling or they are getting hypothermia because they have no coat to wear?"
